We developed this new “montage” product for StoryCorps that combines elements of our audio card and text-based animations. They wanted to reuse the illustrations that we had previously painted for a number of KIPP audio cards but use them in a way that showed off the schools themselves. Normally, the written word has primary importance in StoryCorps videos. But for this product, they wanted to use words sparingly and only have them highlight key phrases. In other words, they didn’t want the words to distract from the visuals we were creating.
And while they didn’t want us to animate the characters themselves, they wanted to keep the frame alive with a constantly moving, fluid camera. Figuring out the timing so that the camera never felt rushed but was always exactly where it needed to be to show off the right part of the school was definitely a challenge, but we’re proud of how it turned out.
KIPP:
The KIPP Public Schools prepare students with the skills and confidence to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. They asked us to create this video to spotlight the program, students, families, alumni, teachers and administrators that have made these schools so successful. These schools take a holistic view of education and work hard to bring the whole community together to make the schools feel like family.
And at the same time, the schools are academically rigorous and prepare their students for future success in college. But kids at KIPP not only thrive academically but also socially and emotionally. And at KIPP, people of color both attend school, and are leaders in education. At KIPP, it’s “one team, one family.”

What do you think? Did we capture the spirit of the KIPP community?
By the way, this is one of 6 stories we produced in 2022 for StoryCorps and KIPP. StoryCorps has been recording and preserving inspirational and profound stories since 2003. And we have been fortunate to be one of their main providers of visual content. In fact, we deliver more than 50 videos per year to them.
Have a story you need to bring to life? Give us a holler! Our costs can fit your budget.
